CFPM is committed to working closely with patients to ensure controlled substances are used appropriately.

LPI is committed to working closely with patients to ensure controlled substances are used appropriately.

Based on “The Standards for the Use of Controlled Substances for Pain”, a physician’s prescribing of pain medications is being monitored closely by The Board of Medicine. Physicians are now required to justify the use of narcotics as a treatment for pain, as well as to monitor the patient to ensure appropriate use, and that there is no abuse, of the controlled substances.

In addition to diagnosis and treatment, pain management physicians are now required to establish narcotic contracts with patients and facilitate the monitoring of medication use through regular visits and urine screenings.

Dr. Ana Lipson is very supportive of the regulations that The Board of Medicine has put into place. Prescription drug addiction, child and young adult access to prescription drugs, and the sale of prescription drug on the street has been out of control for decades. This new level of control will serve as prevention in these levels of use and abuse.
